Pet Wheelchairs by K9 Carts
So you’ve found out that your pet has lost its mobility. It’s hard to imagine life without a furry or feathered friend following you around and keeping you company.
Fortunately, there’s a solution: K9 Carts pet wheelchairs can help your pet get back up and around on their feet. Our name tells you that we’re experts with dog wheelchairs, but we build wheelchairs for all kinds of animals.
We love animals. We’re all pet owners and we can’t imagine life without them. Wheelchairs can extend the life of your companion and improve a disabled pet’s quality of life.
Why K9 Carts?
K9 Carts has built pet wheelchairs for more than 50 years — we started building our custom wheelchairs in 1961. We’re based out of Whidbey Island in Washington state with a new branch soon to be opening in Port Charlotte Florida. That’s where we build all of our wheelchairs.
Our company was founded by veterinarians who were tired of seeing disabled pets suffer through an immobile life. Our wheelchair designs combine advanced knowledge of veterinary medicine with decades of experience building wheelchairs for any and all animals.
Every K9 Carts wheelchair is built to order. Each wheelchair that we ship is customized and adjusted for the specific animal that will use it. We can ship custom-built wheelchairs anywhere in the world, or you can come visit us at our Washington state workshop. Our pet wheelchairs are built to last. We build our wheelchairs to last for the rest of the life of the animal that uses it.
Wheelchairs for Dogs
Dogs are our primary (but not our only) group of patients. We’ve built wheelchairs for thousands of dogs since we started — that’s why the name of our company is K9 Carts.
We build our wheelchairs so that dogs can play and exercise with almost no limitations. Our thousands of clients have told us wonderful stories about the great quality of life that their dogs in wheelchairs enjoy.
Every dog that uses a K9 Carts wheelchair will have a better quality of life than they did before using the chair. The experience of each dog will vary, however, based on the severity of their disability. But we’re proud to have improved the lives of thousands of dogs in every breed and size, from Chihuahuas to German Shepherds.
Wheelchairs for Cats
We’ve built wheelchairs for thousands of cats. They’re our most common type of patient after dogs.
Cats can enjoy a high quality of life with wheelchairs, but a cat in a wheelchair will see their life change more than a dog. As you know, cats love to climb and leap. That sort of vertical activity is hard to do with a wheelchair — they’re too heavy for most cats to jump in.
However, your cat will take quickly to a wheelchair, and they’ll be much happier with it than they were without it. They’ll enjoy getting around again and getting their autonomy back. After all, the only thing that cats like better than climbing is getting their own way.
Wheelchairs for Large Animals
K9 Carts has built wheelchairs for all sorts of large animals, and not just traditional housepets like big dogs. We’ve built wheelchairs for farm animals that have sustained injuries. That means we’ve built goat wheelchairs, sheep wheelchairs, turkey wheelchairs, pig wheelchairs — even horse wheelchairs. We’ve also built wheelchairs for deer and other cervidae.
Rabbit Wheelchairs, Guinea Pig Wheelchairs, and Small Animal Wheelchairs
We also frequently build wheelchairs for small animals. We build plenty of rabbit wheelchairs: Rabbits have a particular risk of spinal injury. After dogs and cats, rabbits are our most common type of patient, so we’ve sent lots of bunny wheelchairs into the world.
We also treat rodents. Tiny friends like rats, hedgehogs, and mice need extra-small custom wheelchairs made with custom parts made in a 3D printer. K9 Carts has also built wheelchairs for fowl, like ducks, chickens, and geese. (Note: Waterfowl should not swim while wearing their wheelchair.) We also build pet wheelchairs for animals in the skunk and badger genuses, including ferrets.
